Turning a Statewide Footprint into a National Model for Ambulatory Excellence

For more than 40 years, NorthStar Anesthesia’s Sentry team has been redefining what it means to partner with ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). With over 60 active partnerships across Georgia—including hospitals, single-specialty and multispecialty ASCs—NorthStar is demonstrating how a regional model built on transparency, clinical independence, and long-term relationships can deliver scalable, sustainable results.

Today, NorthStar’s team includes almost 50 anesthesiologists and over 200 CRNAs across Georgia, offering services that range from routine outpatient procedures to advanced cancer and orthopedic care. The secret to this success? Local leadership, deep recruiting roots, and a clear commitment to care team autonomy.

Built for Scale, Designed for Quality

Unlike many anesthesia groups that expand opportunistically, NorthStar’s Georgia footprint is built around intentional growth. Since 1982, the Sentry team has grown from a small group in Newnan to a statewide presence. In the past 4 months alone, five new client sites have joined the portfolio: OrthoAtlanta in Austell, Professional Eye Surgery Center in Dalton, Tackle Eye Center in Griffin, Apex Spine and Neurosurgery center in Suwanee and a Spine Surgery Center in the Atlanta area. Whether serving multi-specialty or service-line specific ASCs, the guiding principles are the same: data-driven care, seamless staffing, and alignment with the facility’s long-term goals.

This includes:

  • A cost-transparent partnership model designed to support financial sustainability.
  • Best-in-class revenue cycle particularly tailored to ultrasound-guided regional block optimization.
  • A staffing model that embraces CRNA independence while supporting anesthesiologist engagement where needed.

A Full Spectrum of Acuity

In Georgia, NorthStar’s reach extends across the entire acuity spectrum. From routine ophthalmic procedures at newly added eye centers like Takle Eye Surgery Center to high volume orthopedic care at scale at OrthoAtlanta, NorthStar delivers consistent, high-quality anesthesia in a wide range of settings. This breadth is made possible by an intentional recruiting strategy and rigorous onboarding processes that equip providers to deliver excellence regardless of setting.

Recruiting for the Future

NorthStar’s recruiting pipeline strength is another differentiator. With ties to over 65 CRNA training programs—including Augusta University, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and Emory—NorthStar has created one of the most reliable and respected anesthesia talent pipelines in the country. New graduates rotate through a variety of Sentry and other Georgia sites and are trained in the skills that matter most in ASC care: clinical independence, efficiency, and patient-centered focus. Each year, 5–10 new graduates join the team directly from this pipeline, with many returning to the very communities where they trained.

A Model to Watch

While this story is grounded in Georgia, the lessons are national. NorthStar’s ability to scale high-quality, transparent ASC partnerships is increasingly relevant as payors, health systems, and patients continue shifting toward outpatient care. By meeting the full spectrum of facility needs, NorthStar is helping ASCs do more with less, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and satisfaction.

If your ASC is looking for a better anesthesia partnership, NorthStar invites you to see how local leadership, transparent contracts, and clinical excellence can deliver more.
